autodotbiography® was created by Bryher Scudamore who came up with the idea when her beloved mother, Peggy, died. Going through Peggy’s papers Bryher realised how much more there was to discover and desperately wished she had found out more during her mother’s lifetime. So only when it was too late, did she realise there was a gaping chasm where her family history should be. There were so many unanswered questions; so many half-remembered childhood recollections that, without her mothers input, would never be known. And so she vowed to try and help others not to make the same mistake. She knew that the rich or famous, could employ expensive ghost writers to pen their autobiographies, but what of the majority of people who had a precious story to tell their family, but who felt they couldn’t afford to employ a writer and who were also daunted by the prospect of tackling it on their own?
After 12 years of working on the idea, autodotbiography® was gently launched at the ‘Who Do You Think You Are?” exhibition in February 2011.

As the owner of In Loving Memory, my personal experience of autodotbiography® is one of both pleasure and regret. I passed on the details of autodotbiography® to my father who sat down with his children and worked through this amazing book. As was my dads way, he kept the final outcome close to his chest and we forgot to ask him about the book. My mum was next to do her account of her life but fell ill just before starting. Sadly, they both became ill and after 61 years of marriage they passed away within 2 days of each other. While going through piles of paperwork we came across the finished book, it looked amazing, a quality product but the content of my dads stories, photos, school reports and sports achievements was just incredibly moving and informative. Stories of his life I never knew about gave me a further insight to his life adding to this special memento. My regret is that my mum never got round to completing her story and seeing what my dad did, I feel it has left a hole that I am unable to fill with my mums memories.
